Sekoyen Accounting Solutions

Learn as you wish, we won't fail you.

A guide to studying efficiently based on carrying out the activities associated with the stages in the learning process. It is designed to develop thinking skills at the required intellectual levels. The guide focuses on the learning process and does not deal directly with the self-management and other aspects of efficiency covered under the Smart Study Plan and diagnostics tools.

The guide is to be used in conjunction with the Smart Study Plan, Study Text, Revision and Practice Plan, Workbook and Progress Checker.

It is suggested that students read the Metacognition note before reading the guide.

How and why candidates fail their exams

Getting Started with F5

Rooted in the syllabus this Study text is written in a clear, concise and interactive style using the "business context" to illustrate the principles, concepts and techniques of performance management as they apply to the central purpose of an organisation which is to create value for its stakeholders.

The text guides students in making learning meaningful and includes examples of current best practice and performance management cases. This considerate and engaging style reflects current research on how the brain learns and is designed to support active learning at the higher intellectual levels of analysis, evaluation and innovation - attributes of the modern accountant that are at the heart of the professional examination requirements.

Critical thinking, case study, computational and objective exercises cross referenced to the Study Text and Revision and Practice plan. Tailored for effective development and consolidation of knowledge, skills and judgement. Suitable for massed and distributed practice.

Organised, focused and tailored to specific competences required at P5: technical insight, professional judgement and effective writing skills, this plan is integrated with the workbook and study text to support efficient, dynamic, quality and comprehensive practice. A sound plan for success that can be used throughout the course for reactive, purposeful and proactive revision.

Performance management F5

Study, Revision and Practice courses have been designed to help students overcome learning problems that underly examination failure.

The materials are integrated with each other and with relevant articles, question papers, examiner's reports, syllabus and the examiner's approach to provide a rich blend of engaging interactive resources for in-depth learning.

The materials guide candidates in understanding the drivers of value and their interactions with each other and with the environment. Logically, these insights prompt questions that go to the heart of performance management and control systems. For example, what is required to create and sustain value? What factors are most critical to success? What role do stakeholders play in the performance of an organisation? How does failure occur in an organisation?

The strategies, structures, systems, cultures, people and resources are examined against the overall objective of creating value for the organisation in a competitive and changing environment.

Value is defined in the widest sense including environmental care and enhancement. Employee welfare and social contribution to the community also form part of the value created by the organisation. This reflects the triple bottom line aspired to by the best organisations keen to project an environmentally friendly and socially responsible image to their stakehoders.

From the outset the course makes explicit how the "...syllabus further develops key aspects introduced in Paper F5, Performance management". This is to alert candidates to the examiner's approach, clarify the required competences and discuss the implications for learning to attain the higher intellectual levels of synthesis and evaluation required to advise and consult with management.

Throughout the course candidates are provided ample opportunities to develop abilities to think critically, apply principles and professional judgement to varied contexts, such that candidates should be equipped for the versatile applications of sophisticated knowledge required to pass the examinations.
